LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Misty May-Treanor and Nicole Branagh won the AVP Tour event in Long Beach for their second tour win this season. Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won for the fifth tournament in a row, beating No. 2 seed Sean Scott and John Hyden in the men's final 17-21, 21-17, 15-6. May-Treanor, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, won here in 2007 and 2008 with partner Kerri Walsh. She and Branagh beat Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan, 21-16, 21-19. May-Treanor also won an NCAA title with Long Beach State in 1998.

The veteran beach volleyball players win their first two matches at the Hermosa Beach Open before falling in the third match. They win in the consolation bracket to advance to Sunday play. 

 Two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor and teammate Nicole Branagh will attempt to get back to their winning ways as the top-seeded women’s team in this weekend’s AVP NIVEA Tour Virginia Beach Open Presented by Twinlab. The pair won the season-opening stop in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but came up short in subsequent California events in Santa Barbara and Huntington Beach. They headline a deep women’s field that includes the other two teams to win a title this season, second-seeded Jennifer Kessy and April Ross and fourth-seeded Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan.

Misty May-Treanor and Nicole Branagh capped off their debut as teammates by winning the AVP NIVEA Tour Gatorade Fort Lauderdale Open on Sunday, while rain washed out a men’s final that would have put Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers against Matt Fuerbringer and Fort Lauderdale native Nick Lucena. May-Treanor/Branagh swept sixth-seeded Angie Akers and Tyra Turner, 21-14, 21-17, to win the title without losing a game all weekend. The win was May-Treanor’s 106th, adding to her all-time record, and Branagh’s 17th. May-Treanor/Branagh are the first women’s duo to win their first event as teammates since 2002, when Holly McPeak and Elaine Youngs won in Huntington Beach.

The AVP Tour today announced its 2010 schedule, which consists of 12 stops across the United States, from the East Coast to the Midwest and back to Southern California.

Nicole Branagh supports the Home Field Advantage project through ONEXONE. Ambassadors of the Home Field Advantage project include Mia Hamm, Charlize Theron, and Matt Damon.

Moments after Elaine Young and partner Nicole Branagh pulled out a three-set victory (21-14, 13-21, 15-11) Sunday afternoon against April Ross and Jenn Kessy in the women's final of the AVP Chicago Open, Youngs' face was beaming brighter than the sun beating down on Oak Street Beach.

They win the AVP's Hermosa Beach Open after coming within one point of losing to Jen Kessy and April Ross.

It'll be a reunion weekend of sorts at the AVP Tour's Hermosa Beach Open this weekend, as three of the four gold medalists from the 2008 Olympics will be competing, and the fourth is expected to be in attendance along with one of the NBA's most popular players.

Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs won the AVP Manhattan Beach Open on Sunday for their first victory in the event as a team and sixth in the eight events they've played this year.

After Misty May-Treanor tore her Achilles training for "Dancing With The Stars" in October and Kerri Walsh announced she was pregnant in December -- effectively sidelining the world's best beach volleyball team for at least a season -- not a single person would have faulted Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs for gleefully shouting, "Money, money, money!"

For the women, top-seeded Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs remained perfect on the season as well, beating second-seeded Jen Kessy and April Ross, 21-18, 21-14, to win the title.

Along with the natural conflicts that are part of competition, women's beach volleyball pros are experiencing conflicted feelings this season.
